My proposal is for a short film called ‘Breaking The Habit’.

‘Breaking The Habit’ is the

working title for this short film. This short film is an adaptation of the music video ‘Breaking
The Habit’ by Linkin Park which is an animated music video. The story line is very choppy
and is more like a collective of storylines and metaphors then one specific storyline. From
what can be gathered, a suicide victim (who is supposed to look like and represent the lead
vocalist) is laying on top of a car in a dystopian future. Throughout the music video this
character is taken in a sort of time reversal. His fall is reversed and he ends up back on top
of a building, he then performs the song ‘breaking the habit’ on top of the roof throughout the
music video. Between all these choppy sections of story line, another storyline appears. A
girl who seems to be in et late teens appears in her bedroom, she is wearing a shirt and
underwear. She proceeds to write a depressing message in red ink on a blank canvas. A
man then appears who hurts into her room, she proceeds to throw an object at him. We also
see a woman who appears to be a few months pregnant on the floor in an alleyway,
assuming she has been beat up.

The total running time for this short film should be between 10-25 minutes in total. I don't
want to drag it out too long, it should be short, sharp and impactful. It could be shown at
conventions like Pen9 Film Festival, Rob Knox Film Fest, Open City Docs Fest, etc etc. It
could also be shown at Linkin Park events memorial days for Chester Bennington (the lead
singer who sadly passed away in 2017.)

A short tagline for this piece could be “the hardest part of ending is starting again.” —
“Waiting for the End.” It is not a lyric from ‘Breaking the Habit’ but it is still from a Linkin Park
song and I think it fits this perfectly! Each person in this short film went through some sort of
suffering and then their lives reversed to a happier time, they started again.

Who: My actors will be local friends who I could happily cast into certain roles. If I could cast
celebrities then I would have Linkin Park play themselves, however this is not possible due
to my lack of connections and the lead vocalists death. If I could cast the female roles I
would cast someone like Millie Bobby Brown (maybe look for an older actress) for the first
female and for the second female I would cast someone like
Where: I would have to use a range of locations including a tall building, an apartment and a
car junkyard.
Why: I feel like this short film would be a great piece to create for a few reasons. One reason
being; Linkin Park have an incredibly large fan base and this short film could be incredibly
profitable. Another reason would be; after the recent death of the lead vocalist, the fans are
lacking in content. The vast majority of Linkin Park fans favour their old music, thus re-
creating one of their past songs would be a wonderful thing to create for a suffering fan
base.
When: when would release 25 March 2018. The 15th anniversary since the release of
Meteora. Also 5 days after Chester Bennington’s (lead singer of Linkin Park) birthday.
What: A short film based around depression, domestic abuse and drug abuse.

I will need to use a green screen and special effects makeup. The green screen and special
effects makeup will be used for the scene in which Chester has fallen onto a car.
My target audience is Linkin Park fans aged between 16 and 40. There is a far amount of
Linkin Park fans that are out of this age range which could also take interest in this short film,
but the majority of fans are between 16 and 40. Any fans younger than 16 would be advised
not to watch this short film as it contains sensitive subjects and drug use.
Any sounds that would be used would need to be generic outdoor sounds, police sirens,
screams and breathing from the characters, the song ‘Breaking The Habit’, and any other
necessary sounds.
