FRENCH APPLE PIE

(With Crumbled Topping)


Ingredients: Apple Filling:
1 Cup sifted All-Purpose Flour
8 small Green Apples or 4 Big Ones
½ teaspoon Iodized Salt
2 – 3 Tablespoons Calamansi Juice
½ teaspoon Baking Powder
¾ Cup White Sugar
1/3 Cup Butter or Shortening
1 teaspoon Cinnamon
2 – 3 Tablespoons Cold Water
3 Tablespoons Chopped Walnuts
2 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
Grated Cheese

Topping:
¼ Cup Chilled Butter
½ Cup All-Purpose Flour
1 Tablespoon Chopped Walnuts
¼ Cup Brown Sugar

Procedure:
1. Prepare a 9-inch pie plate. Pre-heat oven to 375°F.
2. Sift flour, salt, baking powder together.
3. Cut-in butter into flour mixture until pea-sized.
4. Add as much water to bind the ingredients together.
5. Form into a ball.
6. Roll-out dough to 1/8” thick.
7. Fit dough into prepared pie plate.
8. Flute edges and chill for 10 minutes.
9. Prepare Apple Filling: Pare and slice apples thinly.
10. Put apple slices in a bowl and sprinkle with Calamansi juice.
11. Combine sugar, cinnamon, and nuts. Toss into the apple slices. Add the
flour.
12. Turn into prepared crust.
13. Top with grated cheese.
14. Prepare Toppings: Cut-in chilled butter into flour. Add walnuts and brown
sugar.
15. Sprinkle mixture on top of apple filling.
16. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown.
