Chapter V

Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendations

In this chapter presents summary, conclusion and recommendation of the

study.

Summary of Findings

The objective of the study was to know the levels and patterns of urinary

incontinences and its counter prevention. This topic also explored the origins,

manifestations, effects, causes of urinary incontinence.

The participants in the study are 5 elderlies and 3 adolescents who are

experiencing the different levels of urinary incontinence and residing in the

community. Interview was use as the research instrument in the study.

Urinary incontinence is based on the symptoms and is subdivided into

three levels; mild, moderate and severe levels. Mild level has the symptoms of

after eating food forming hard stool causes sudden flow of urine and involuntary

flow of urine when bladder volume is reached. Moderate level of urinary

incontinence has the symptoms of sudden flow of urine occurring during night

time and inability of usually continent person to reach toilet in time to void

unintentional loss of urine. Severe level has the symptoms of continuous and

unpredictable flow of urine.

Preventions are presented and are subdivided into three depending on the

level of urinary incontinence. For the mild level the preventions are decreasing

fluid intake and increasing high fiber diet. The preventions of moderate level are

using of diapers and bladder training. The severe level has the preventions of

catheterization and the use of medications. The causes of incontinence are not

based on the hereditary factor present on the individual and their effect is only

having urinary tract infection.

Conclusions

After gathering the data the researcher conclude the following:

1. Researchers concluded that there are three various levels of urinary

incontinence: mild, moderate and severe levels. Mild level of urinary

incontinence has the symptoms of involuntary loss of urine when a bladder

volume is reached and eating foods forming hard stool causes sudden

release of urine. Moderate level of urinary incontinence has the symptoms

of sudden leakage of urine during night time and inability of usually

continent person to reach toilet in time to void unintentionally loss of urine.

Severe levels of urinary incontinence has the symptom of urinary

incontinence is continuous and unpredictable passage of urine.

2. The researchers concluded that the origin of urinary incontinence is to

certain that it is inherited from their lineage. The cause of urinary

34

incontinence is to certain that it is an illness. Urinary incontinence has some

effects in the health of the respondents like having the urinary tract

infections due to frequent wetting of the underwear.

3. The researchers concluded that the particular intervention for urinary

incontinence of mild, moderate and severe level is categorized in each level.

For mild urinary incontinence the intervention is to decrease fluid intake for

prevent excessive water discharge and having a high fiber diet to prevent

constipation in order for the bladder not to distend because of expanding

and applying of pressure from the full stomach. The interventions used in

moderate urinary incontinence is using absorbent pads for prevention

scattering urine in the undergarment and bladder training for the discipline

of the bladder to void at a specific time. The severe urinary incontinence

has the interventions by using catheter and can combined using drug

medications prescribed by the doctor such as oxybutynin (diptropan),

tolterodine (detrol), darifenacin (enablex), solfenacin (vesicare) and

trospium (sanctura).

Recommendations

On the basis of the findings and conclusions made in this study, the

following recommendations were suggested:

35

1. It is recommended to the elderly experiencing with mild, moderate or

severe levels of symptom also with the adolescent. They are recommended

to use diaper pads, catheter, and medications depending on the symptom

present in the individual.

2. It is recommended to other elderlies and adolescents without any kind of

symptom but with risk in having urinary incontinence for further

prevention.

3. It is recommended for the family to not isolate any member of the family

having urinary incontinence for it will cause less embarrassment in the

society

4. It is recommended to the heath care providers to assist their patients

having this condition to advise them to use these interventions to lessen

their burden when it comes to incontinence.

5. It is recommended to the parents who are having children with urinary

incontinence to advise them to use diaper pads to prevent leakage of urine

and to prevent them from embarrassment.
