Instructions
Read and review the attached case study: Procurement at Betapharm Corp. (A)
You are required to identify key information and analyse what is happening in the case. Use the
Procurement and Sourcing slides presented and discussed during classes as a guide to answer the
assignment questions. Reading Chapter 15, Sourcing decision in the Supply Chain, from the Chopra
& Mendell text will help you to fully answer the questions.
Questions
1. Why do you think that Betapharm is concerned with the total cost of ownership?
2. What do you think are the benefits or problems of Betapharm using e-sourcing in its sourcing
process?
3. Identify the direct material in the case. What classification of direct material do you think it is
and why could e-sourcing be a disadvantage for the procurement of this class of product?
Presentation
The word limit for answers in this report is 1, 200 words, line spacing 1.5, in Arial font size 11.The
project’s pages should be stapled at the top left hand corner with student’s name clearly placed on
the front page, along with the date of submission and word count.
The use of tables is encouraged as part of your answers to limit the word count.

Marking
The case report will be marked for:
Written Case Report
Presentation – style, format and length
Clearly answering the set questions.
Identification of:
 Importance of total cost of ownership
 Benefits and problems of suing e-sourcing
 Identification of procurement strategy issues

In general the mark is based on the case report’s content (whether you have answered the
questions) and followed the presentation criteria. Note that the report’s presentation is as
important as is the clarity of your answers.
