ABOUT THE INSTITUTION
Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of
Engineering (SSNCE) is the outcome of the vision
and initiative of Dr. Shiv Nadar, Chairman, HCL
Technologies, a pioneer in the field of
Information Technology.
The Institution was established in 1996 on a
sprawling campus of 250 acres on the Rajiv
Gandhi Road(OMR) of Chennai. SSNCE is an
autonomous institute affiliated to Anna
University, Chennai and it offers 8 B.E./B.Tech.
degree programmes and 11 M.E./M.Tech. degree
programs in addition to MBA approved by AICTE.
The institution is ISO 9001:2008 certified, with 7

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The department of Electrical and Electronics
Engineering offers NBA accredited B.E. degree
program in Electrical and Electronics
Engineering and M.E. degree program in Power
Electronics and Drives. The department has 28
qualified faculty members including 20 Ph.D. The
department is recognized as approved research
center by Anna University. The department is
well equipped with state-of-art laboratories like
Advanced Power Electronics lab, Solar Energy
Research lab, Renewable Energy Conversion
Laboratory, High Voltage Lab and UG & PG
Simulation Labs with licensed softwares like
ETAP, PSCAD, EMTP-RV, Mipower, MagNet, PSim.
The department has signed MoU with various
industries and has taken up research projects
funded by AICTE, DST, MNRE and NIWE. The
department has organized several
International/National Conferences, Faculty
Development Programs, Short-term Training
Programmes and Workshops sponsored by Anna
University, AICTE, CSIR and ISTE.

OBJECTIVE OF THE PROGRAMME
The state-of-art control aspects of smart power
sector is to maximize renewable energy
integration with adequate system stability. This
problem can be effectively tackled by the
application of Flexible AC Transmission Systems
(FACTS) and High Voltage DC transmission
(HVDC) for the regulation of power flows and
voltages. To provide insight to the participants,
this AICTE - ISTE sponsored Induction /
Refresher Programme intends to:
● Update knowledge and pedagogical skills of
faculties in the field of renewable energy.
● Provide an opportunity for interaction and
mutual exchange of ideas between faculties.
● Present an opportunity for faculties to
familiarize the concepts of HVDC & FACTS with
analysis and design particularly with the aid of
certain selected advanced simulation softwares.
● Opening up new vistas in field of smart power
grid to motivate faculties for pursuing research
and development.
