Science and Social Studies Project Idea List

**In order to pass of this Soaring Leader requirement, you must choose ONE Social Studies or Science
project to complete and present to the class. Don’t forget to include evidence of your projects
(pictures, copies, etc.) in your portfolio!**

Social Studies Choices:

1. Research and write a report or create a slide show (PowerPoint or Google Slides) on
(pick one):
*a foreign country
*an ancient people (Aztecs, Incas, Mayas, etc.)
*how the Pledge of Allegiance and the United States flag show patriotism
*a famous world leader and how he/she was an example of the 7 Habits.

2. Research and build a model of (pick one)

*a Native American tribe’s dwelling
*the community you live in (label important places/features)
*a state or national monument

3. Plan a healthy menu for one day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) according to the new
food guide pyramid. Try to include all the food groups.

Science Choices:
4. Build a terrarium and bring it to school to show the class.

5. Build or design (digital) a model (pick one):

*demonstrating the day and night cycle of the Earth. Make sure to label the parts
of your project.
*demonstrating the orbit of the Earth and the moon with the Earth orbiting the sun
and the moon orbiting the Earth
*of an object using examples of simple machines (please label everything)

6. Create an object lesson (pick one):

*demonstrating the force of gravity
*demonstrating the phases of the moon
*demonstrating how the Earth experiences seasons
7. Conduct an investigation and document (pick one):
*the movement and phases of the moon for a month. Include a short summary of
what you observed
*what happens when objects of various weights collide with one another
*the effect of gravity on several objects in motion (e.g. a thrown ball and a dropped
ball falling to Earth
*predictions, measurements, and a graph of the temperature changes produced by a
variety of mechanical machines and electrical devices while they are operating
