desire for help (12,500 people, 15+ centres)
– Checklist and Algorithm for IBD nurses to detect reversible
causes (including disease activity) for symptoms: treat and
reassess: 1000+ people

Practical tips for research in IBD clinics

• Involve the whole team

– Colleagues
– IBD nurses
– Clinic nurses
– Infusion unit nurses
– Secretaries
– Patients – Patient groups etc
More tips!
• Have research nurses attend IBD clinic
• Have the summary of open trials in every
clinic room
• Have the PIS (pt info sheets) in clinic
• If patients wait, use this time to prime them
about research – Banners / posters etc
• Only do trials you care about
Conclusions
• IBD research in UK is very active

• Any IBD unit in the UK can participate in these

studies
– Investigators meeting Nottingham 12.11.18
– Keep a look out on BSG website for details

• The ambition: every IBD patient in every IBD

clinic to be offered an opportunity to participate
in research
