Subject:  PROCEDURE FOR RETENTION OF GREY WATER & TREATED SEWAGE

NOTE 1: This Checklist to be used while entering restricted area to discharge sewage
from ship, changeover to be carried out.

The following steps to be taken for retaining grey water and treated sewage to designated HOLDING
TANK.
1 Open Grey water holding tank valve on deck 8 hold 1 both port & stbd side.
2 Open by pass valve on Deck 8 hold 1 coming from drainage O/B line both port & stbd side.
3 Open by pass valve on Deck 8 hold 1 coming from ref. provision store O/B line (port & stbd side).
4 Open by pass valve on deck 8 hold 1 coming from Galley O/B drain both port & stbd side.
5 Open by pass valve on deck 8 hold 1 coming from Galley comminuter drain port side.
6 Open by pass valve on deck 8 hold 1 coming from drainage O/B general both port & stbd side.
Close all overboard discharge on deck 2 hold 1 both port & stbd side including grey water holding
7 tank overboard discharge valve.

8 Change over time & vessel position to be logged in Deck, Engine & VGP log book.

Sewage holding tank changeover procedure:


1 Ensure that the sewage treatment plant is in use.
2 Treatment plant bypass valve is shut & locked with padlock.

3 Treatment plant is on auto and discharge to be put into holding tank located at Fore peak store.

4 Treatment plant discharge to sea and shore outlet valve to keep shut.
5 Sewage golding tank drain valve to keep shut.
Tank retention capacity is 6 Tons- monitor tank level periodically during this special operation
6 period.
7 Make entry of sewage changeover timing & vessel position into Deck and Engine log book.

2 Safety Precaution:-
2.1 Only designated responsible duty engineer/Duty officer to be assigned for operation of valves.
2.2 Secure storm valves with padlock to prevent tempering.
2.3 Daily sounding record of grey water holding tank to be monitored.

NOTE 2): Display conspicuously in ECR,Sewage treatment plant & Grey water holding tanks(port & stbd).
NOTE 3): Chief Engineer to modify this checklist by including/deleting ship specific items as required.
