The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) was estabilished in 1997 by 25 countries from Europe and Asia
,together with the European Commission, convened in Bangkok and Thailand. ASEF advances mutual
understanding and collaboration between the people of Asia and Europe through intellectual, cultural,
and people-to-people exchanges.

As of date 9 AEC conferences have been held since 2001 which has had a participation of more than 25
countries.this is the first time that india has got the opportunity to hold this prestigious event.
OBJECTIVES
To foster collaborations among secondary and higher secondary teachers and students in asia
and Europe with the view to promoting collaborative ,cross-cultural learning and exchanges
among ASEM
To encourage the advancement of education through the use of Infocomm Technology (ICT).
To develop innovative and interactive platforms offering inter-cultural learning opportunities for
secondary and high schools in Asia and Europe.
To develop a network between the schools of Europe and Asia
The major achievement of ASEF is the establishment of permanent bi-regional networks focussed on
areas and issues that help to strengthen Asia-Europe relations.In the past 13 years, ASEF has
implemented over 450 projects, bringing together more than 15,000 direct participants and reaching
out to an even wider audience in Asia and Europe.

Conceived in 1998, the Asia-Europe Classroom (AEC) is a programme under the Asia-Europe
Foundation (ASEF), which has a unique structure that connects secondary or high schools in
Asia and Europe. It is a cyber-classroom shared by students and teachers to build stronger bi-
regional networks and partnerships in the course of implementing common online projects and
participating in face-to-face exchanges.
