ELEMENTS OF ARTS

Lines and curves are marks that span a distance between two points (or the path of a moving point). As
an element of visual art, line is the use of various marks, outlines, and implied lines during artwork and
design. A line has a width, direction, and length.
In the visual arts, shape is a flat, enclosed area of an artwork created through lines, textures, colours or an
area enclosed by other shapes for example triangles circles and squares. Likewise, a form can refer to a
three-dimensional composition or object within a three-dimensional composition.

Form is an artist's way of using elements of art, principles of design, and media. Element of art that is
three-dimensional and encloses space. Like a shape, a formhas length and width, but it also has
depth. Forms are either geometric or free-form.
Color (American English) or colour (Commonwealth English) is the characteristic of human visual
perception described through color categories, with names such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue,
or purple. This perception of color derives from the stimulation of cone cells in the human eye
by electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum. Color categories and physical specifications of color
are associated with objects through the wavelength of the light that is reflected from them. This reflection is
governed by the object's physical properties such as light absorption, emission spectra, etc.
Space, as one of the classic seven elements of art, refers to distances or areas around, between,
and within components of a piece. Spacecan be positive or negative, open or closed, shallow or deep, and
two-dimensional or three-dimensional.
Texture is the perceived surface quality of a work of art. It is anelement of two-dimensional and
three-dimensional designs and is distinguished by its perceived visual and physical properties. Use
of texture, along with otherelements of design, can convey a variety of messages and emotions.
