 The Oklahoma Financial Education Association
BACKGROUNDER

The Oklahoma Financial Education Association is a non-profit, personal education

program that helps K-12 schools, higher education campuses, business and community partners

develop their financial knowledge. The Oklahoma Financial Education Association’s main goal

is to educate students that are at a high school level, about savings, budgeting and other financial

knowledge that will be necessary for college and adult life.

VISION AND MISSION

The mission of the Oklahoma Financial Education Association is to educate and

empower the youth with the information and resources that are necessary to make informed

financial decisions. Along with that, another part of their mission is to promote economic and

financial literacy in the state of Oklahoma. The vision of the OFEA is to make a positive

difference in the future of Oklahoma by helping youth improve their financial well-being.

HISTORY

With the Oklahoma Financial Education Association being established in 1954, there has

been several years of advancement for the program. The OFEA is affiliated with the Council for

Economic Education which is a national network of state councils and university-based centers.

The idea of this organization is to treat economics education as “real life.” This purpose was

developed because all young people will grow up and become part of the marketplace. With the

help of OFEA, there will be resources and training provided to the teachers in both public and

independent schools in the state of Oklahoma.
