Problem of Statement
The negative impact of social networking sites on behaviour of teenagers (13 to 19) in

San Juan Trinidad over the past 5 years (2008-2013)

Statement of Problem
Due to the frequent use and easy accessibility of social networking sites there have been

many obvious negative impacts on the behaviour patterns of teenagers including cyber

bullying, peer pressure and an influence for underage drinking of alcohol and smoking.

Therefore, this study seeks to highlight the factors that cause the changed behavioural

patterns in teenagers in these modern times and exactly what role these sites play in their

lives. Data will be collected using quantitative methods which include the use of

questionnaires and the internet.

Definition of Terms

Social networking site- a set of related web pages and this is served from a single web

domain

Facebook- an online social networking service that allows registered users to create

profiles, upload photos and video, send messages and keep in touch with friends, family

and colleagues

Twitter- an information and social network that connects its users to latest stories, ideas,

opinions and news about their interests

Instagram- an online social networking service that allows its users to view and share

photos and vidoes

MySpace- a social networking service that users create profiles based on a very strong

music empahsis

Behaviour- the way a person acts or conducts themselves and it includes a range of

actions

Questionnaire- a survey made up of a number of pre-set or close-ended questions which

are followed by a number of anticipated responses

Survey- a method used to collect data

Psychological Research- research that psychologists conduct to research and analyse the

experiences' and behaviours of individuals or groups and they may have educational,

occupational, and clinical application
