Mechanical gripper MECHANICAL METHOD FOR OPENING FRESH COCONUT
This is a mechanical, hand operated
machine for cutting the top of fresh tender coconut. The system consist of two mechanism parts, a crank and gripper. They are operated by two mechanisms: (1) Crank mechanism for moving a cutting blade/knife and (2) Robot gripper mechanism for holding the coconut in place. The knife and gripper are both connected to the piston of the crank mechanism such that a stroke of the crank moves the knife forward, at the same time, tightening the robot gripper.
A pre-shaved coconut fruit, in a diamond
shape, is placed in the robot gripper (which at this time only secures it, but loosely).
The handle on the crank mechanism is
turned, causing the piston to move the gripper and stainless steel blade. The blade cuts into the coconut, and the water collected through a connected funnel into a cup.
