Source 1 Fact 1: The British government shot 26 unarmed Tom https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2711727/bloody-
civilians in the Bogside area of Derry, County Gillespie, sunday-1972-londonderry-troubles-northern-
Londonderry, as they protested against 4th April ireland/
internment - whereby suspected IRA terrorists 2018
were locked up without trial.

Fact 2: Thirteen victims were killed outright by


the shooting while another died of his injuries
four months later.

Fact 3: The march had been organized by the


Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association and the
Northern Resistance Movement.

Fact 4: The march set off at roughly 2.45pm on


Sunday, January 30, and was made up of
between 10,000 and 15,000 people.

Fact 5: The widely-discredited Widgery Tribunal


took place soon after Bloody Sunday.
Baron John Widgery heard testimony from
paratroopers who claimed they were shot at
first.
The marchers maintained nobody was armed.
Widgery came out on the side of the British Army
and this was accepted by the UK Government
and Northern Ireland's unionists.
