Complex sentence: contains an independent


clause and one or more subordinate clauses.

e.g. If Darwin’s theory is a fact, it will change


human history.

Compound-complex sentence: contains two or


more independent clauses and one or more
subordinate clauses.

e.g. Although the teacher had conversation with


the student’s parents, he didn’t improve his
behaviour in class, so she sent him to the
headmistress.
