1. Pre-reading activity (dupa parerea mea e un fel de lead-in)


Time: 8 min
Level: upper-intermediate 10th grade
Competences/Objectives:
Ss will:
-be motivated to start the reading activity
-be relaxed and feel free to express their own opinions
-be familiarized with the activity’s topic
Procedure:
T plays a video where Ss can see some pictures representative for the paragraph they will read.
T asks Ss to feel free and answer: “What are you thinking about when seeing those pictures? Are
we dealing with some movie scenes or a book narrative sequences? What is your opinion? Can
you guess the title of the book/film?”
T concentrates over content, not form.(Notes the eventual mistakes in a notebook and discuss
them the following meeting)
T encourages Ss to talk, sustain their ideas and respect others’ voices, too.

2. While-reading activity
Time: 15 min
Competences/Objectives:
Ss will:
-be able to scan a text
-be able to find the main ideas from a paragraph
-understand the message of a text
-share ideas and participate in classroom discussion
-define the meaning of new words from a context

Procedure:
T informs ss they are going to read a paragraph from the novel x
T makes 4 groups (4 ss in each one, using the criterion: weak and strong ). T asks Ss to choose a
leader for each group.
Ss receive a worksheet with a paragraph from the novel “x”.
Then,T pastes on the blackboard 4 pictures, under each picture being written 3 words.
Each group chooses a picture.
T gives them the task: “Read the paragraph (scan it), find the correct passage that matches your
picture, then try to guess the meaning of the new words given from the context and emphasize
the main idea of the passage.”
T encourages them to co-operate and communicate, use the foreign language when solving the
task. T motivates them, saying : “The group who finishes first will be the winner!”

After 5-6 minutes of thinking and co-operating, Ss present their answers.


T is an observer, a facilitator and a resource.
