harmony cannot be engineered, forbearance can. Laura
Carsten of the Stanford psychology department calls
this phenomenon compelled assimilation. She suggests
that people cannot be forced to like eachother, but due
to proximity and exposure, they are persuaded to be be
open-minded about eachother. And I think you will agree
with me that tolerance is a step towards unity.
