The importance of a Mission Statement

According to Strategic management of health care Organizations there are 6

characteristic components of mission statements and most mission statements contain

one or several components from the list (Ginter, Duncan & Swayne, 2013). The 6

characteristic components include 1) customer/market focus, 2) service delivery/product

focus, 3) geographical focus, 4) identifies organization philosophy, 5) focus on

organization’s preferred self-image and 6) focus on organization’s desired public image.

PillView’s mission statement is ‘to pro-actively empower patients, caregivers,

healthcare providers and the general public with innovative tools that accurately and

safely identify prescription medications’. Based on this statement, the emphasis is on

two characteristic components; customer/market focus as it mentions patients,

caregivers, healthcare providers and the general public and service delivery/product

focus as it is designing innovative tools that promote safety. The organizations desired

public image embodies the distinctiveness of the organization as it is focusing on

empowering various stakeholders with tools that promote safe use of prescription

medications.
