Elementary Grading Guidelines

The proficiency levels are as follows:


Proficiency Description
Level

4 A 4 indicates that the student is performing at the expert level. This


means a student has excelled at grade level expectations, goes above
the learning targets, standards and expectations, has full mastery of the
concepts/skills, can positively lead the group, and helps others with
their extra time.

3 A 3 indicates that the student is performing at the proficient level. This


means a student meets grade level expectations, has a firm grasp of
standards and demonstrates understanding of grade level skills and
concepts.

2 A 2 indicates that the student is performing at the basic level. This


means a student is gaining the skills and concepts but has not reached
all of the grade level standards yet. The student meets standards with
assistance and may need extra time to practice or understand the
concept or skill.

1 A 1 indicates that the student is performing at the limited level. This


means the students has an area of concern. The student has a weak
understanding of concepts and skills. The student is not meeting grade
level expectations.

Other Progress Markings

LS This marking may be used to indicate that a student is participating in a


Literacy Support program during this class time. A Literacy Support
progress report may be included in the report card.

I This marking will be used if a student has not completed enough of the
required work to demonstrate learning. This is only a temporary marking.
The marking will be changed when the student has completed the work.

P This marking will be used if the student is participating in the curriculum,


but not yet at grade level and requires more time and practice. A
progress report or comments may be included in the report card.
