in Matekko Village, Gantarang District, Bulukumba Regency. Thesis. Faculty of

This study aims to determine 1) socio-economic characteristics of seaweed farmers, 2)


factors that support the seaweed cultivation business and 3) how much contribution of
seaweed cultivation to the income of seaweed farmers households. This research is a
quantitative descriptive study. With a population of 350 household heads. Multi stage
random sampling technique, the number of samples is 35 (10%). And data collection using
a questionnaire. Analyzed by quantitative statistical techniques. The results showed that the
average respondent was 46-56 years old, namely 16 people or 45.7, Seaweed farmer
households had 3-4 household members per household and there were 3-4 dependents. The
average level of education of corn farmers in Laccori Village only graduated from
elementary school as many as 11 people or 31.43 percent and side livelihoods included;
windhu shrimp, milkfish cultivation, paddy cultivation, catfish farming, fishermen, and
entrepreneurship.

The results of the study showed: the contribution of seaweed cultivation was 71.76% of
household heads experienced an increase in household income as seaweed farmers.
Working as a grass farmer has a positive impact on the level of income of seaweed farmers'
households. This study also shows that there is an increase in income between 5.71 percent
to 8.57 percent, it clearly makes respondents have the opportunity to improve the welfare of
their families than before before working as a seaweed farmer.
