Understanding WHILE

WHILE: Usually we use while when there are two long actions. We use this word when two
things happen at the same time.

 While it shows that two events happen simultaneously. It is followed by a subject and a
verb.
 While clauses have a present continuing or a past continuing verb.
 While is a linking word and it's always followed by a clause.

While indicates,
1) that two or more actions occur at the same time:
Set the table while I prepare lunch. - Set the table while I prepare the food.

2) Indicates that two or more actions occur at the same time:


She always listens to music while while having a shower. - She always listens to music while
showering.

3) Express opposition between two actions:


I have cleaned all the house alone, while I have done nothing. - I have cleaned the whole house,
while you have not done anything.

Read and study these sentences:

Bill went to school while he was living in Chicago. [while + subject + was + Ving …]
While Bill was living in Chicago, he went to school.
