All the turned parts have one common
characteristic that they have curved machine
surface, which are produced during the
rotation of the part about its axis. Turning is
very useful when precise surface is required.
The parts produced from castings of various
types, forgings, extrusions, welded and brazed
assemblies, and moulded non-metallic parts
etc. require turning operations. Typically the
workpiece is rotated on a spindle and the tool
is fed into it radially, axially or both ways
simultaneously to give the required surface.
