Software Quality Factors and Quality Standards

Objectives
At the end of this tutorial activity you should be able to:

1. Explain the software Quality Factors.

2. Review the various quality standards and its applicability to software systems

Task 1 – Common terms

1. Briefly explain the different views of software quality.
2. Briefly explain how one can measure the user’s view of software quality.
3. Briefly explain how one can measure the manufacture’s view of software quality.

Task 2 –research and presentation

The purpose of this exercise is to research on the following quality standards and evaluate its
applicability to ensuring quality in software systems.

a. IS09000 and related standards such as IS9001, ISO9002 & IS09126

b. ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207
c. SEI Capability Maturity Model
d. Personal Software Process (PSP)
e. TickITPlus

Students will be divided in groups and assigned a standard to research on. The findings of the
research will need to be presented to the class using presentation software.

Points to present:
1. Describe the standard
a. What is covers?
2. Where is it applied?
3. Applicability to ensuring quality in software.
4. Pros and Cons of standard
