Problem-1

a) Piece rate:
 40 piece / day
1 day = 8 hr
 8 hr = 40 pieces
1 hr = 40/8 pieces
= 5 pieces
 5 piece = $ 8.50
1 piece = $8.50/ 5
= $ 1.70

Total Earnings:= $ 1.70 x 40

= $ 68

b) 1 hr = $ 8.50
8 hr = 8 x $ 8.50
= $ 68 per day
Production exceeded by ( 80-40) = 40 pieces
Total earnings will be = $ 68+$ 68
= $138

c) Piece rate:
Standard Unit: 40 pieces / 8 hours = 5 pieces per hour

Std. rate per Unit is; $8.50 (hourly rate) / 5 (pieces per hour) = $1.70 per piece
Premium rate per unit is 1.70 X 1.2 = $2.04

Earnings: So, if Karim produces 80 unit then his earnings will be

Wages from producing Standard unit: $1.70x 40 = $68.

Wages from producing premium unit: $2.04 x (80-40=40) = $81.6

Total: $68 + $81.6 (Standard + Premium) = $149.6
