What is PMI?
Project Management Institute (PMI) is one of the world's largest professional membership associations
with half a million members and credential holders in more than 180 countries mostly in the USA.
It is a not-for-profit organization that advances the project management profession through globally
recognized standards and certifications, collaborative communities, an extensive research program, and
professional development opportunities.
PMI offers five certifications that recognize knowledge and competency, including the Project
Management Professional (PMP) credential held by more than 370,000 practitioners worldwide. Salaries
and career opportunities for credential holders show that employers recognize the value delivered by
trained practitioners.;
PMI was the first organization to offer a credential specifically for project managers, certification
program remains the global standard. Developed by practitioners for practitioners and representing
diverse global audience, PMI certifications give a technical and financial edge.
The examination lasts 4 hours and includes 200 questions. Passing score: 61%.
PMI’s Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is a valuable entry-level certification for project
practitioners. Designed for those with less project experience, the CAPM demonstrates your
understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology and processes of effective project
management.
PMI’s Program Management Professional (PgMP) credential recognizes the advanced experience and skill
of program managers. Globally recognized and demanded, the PgMP demonstrates your proven
competency to oversee multiple, related projects and their resources to achieve strategic business goals.

How IPMA is run?
IPMA consists of a Council of Delegates, an Executive Board, several Management Boards, working and project
groups and a Secretariat. The Council and Board Members come from all over the world and reflect the
international nature of IPMA.
The philosophy of the organisation is to achieve agreement by consensus and to avoid voting procedures as
often as possible.
Council of Delegates
The Council of Delegates is the steering committee of IPMA and the highest decision making body. Each
member association nominates one Council representative and one alternate, who attend the Council
meetings twice a year.
Executive Board
The Executive Board is responsible for the operational management of IPMA and sets the practical guidelines
for all approved activities. It organises the internal administration, assesses new candidates for membership
and represents IPMA in all external relations.
The Executive Board is deeply committed to promoting project management competences globally and the
Board Members reflect the international character of IPMA.
Management Boards
The activities of IPMA are supported by several management boards:
o Award Management Board
o Certification Validation Management Board
o Education and Training Management Board
o Research Management Board
o Young Crew Management Board
Secretariat
The Secreatariat is responsible for the professional administration of IPMA. It is the primary point of contact
for all enquiries. The Secretariat reports to the Executive Board and Secretary General.
The permanent Secretariat of the IPMA is based in the Netherlands. The Chief Administrative Officer for the
Secretariat is Mrs. Christianne Janssens.
The D-level exam is a written examination that lasts three hours. The A-, B- and C-level exams consist in a two-
hour-long oral examination, where examinees report on the project they have conducted.

- Candidates who want their know-how in project management to be recognized and valorized.
- Candidates who want to obtain a certification that is not only based on knowledge, but also on experience.
- Candidates whose companies are oriented towards the IPMA certification.
