 Inspiration
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is a dark fantasy
debut novel by American author Ransom Riggs. It is a story of
a boy who, following a horrific family tragedy, follows clues
that take him to an abandoned children's home on a Welsh
island. The story is told through a combination of narrative
and vernacular photographs from the personal archives of
collectors listed by the author.

The fancy world created by Tim Burton is amazing and

interesting. He made the old vernacular photograph to reality
shoot. The weird art is strange but gorgeous. It is eye catching
and attractive. It can express the true of one.

Joseph and Thomas Odwell as the Twins, two masked gorgon twin boys and Pixie Davies as Bronwyn Bruntley,
a super-strong young girl in photos. These are real vernacular photograph with historical, they are strange but
real. The shooting method and motivation is still a mystery.

dark side of human.

I choose weird and strange art as

photography theme. By using props
such as goldfish, ribbon express the
contrast between repression and
freedom.

Projection, low key with colour gel

lighting, long exposure is used for
strengthen the weird and strange
atmosphere.

In my further development, the model metaphorize the new generation of Hong Kong. All
of us are trapped by the society such as education system, traditional eastern thinking. We
do not like to wear a fake mask cover our emotion catering the public. We need to break
down the rules. We desire freedom and a better future, create our own life but not
controlled by the society.

Eastern art is specific for eastern Asia
in this project. We are focus in
Japanese and Chinese culture.

Eastern culture has a long history but

always known as traditional closed
minded and superstition. Eastern
pattern are mainly nature such as lotus,
sea, birds. Also eastern embroidery is
trend in 2017 .

Eastern culture are our base. We

should inherit and promote it.

We used it as styling theme for a lady

who trap by society.

It gives a cruel and mad feeling with

 According to the storyline, we want to create a rich and

Make-up beauty girl which born a old traditional eastern social

family. So we decided to take the traditional elements like
the bend eyebrow, purple eyeshadow and red little mouth.

 In makeup 2, we want to a reversal feeling. In the

Make-up storyline, the girl who want to be free is finally get mad,
she want to release her inner feelings. So we decided to
use the black eyeshadow, deep red lip and big red blush on
her half face.

 As for the hair, in order to match the girl who born in big family,
we bun two sides of hair with flower hairpin. As we mentioned,

Hair she is a melancholy girl and get many thoughts in her mind. We
curled her hair to mean her a lot of inner feelings.

Colour gel with
shadow effect is
tested.

We take our first test shoot in C005b of hkdi. Four styling was fitted on
model and low key is used. Model’s pose and emotion is not enough for
express our story so we did more research. Also make up is not match
with our styling. Projection effect with long
exposure is experienced.

Second test shoot is also take in C005b of HKDI. We use a new
model.
High key lighting is
try but it is not
match with our
theme.

We try on new makeup and hairstyle for model. Also props like glass
bowl, paper umbrella is used helping us for story telling, strength
our theme.

 Process Goldfish is brought for
strengthen our weird and

goldfishes are still alive and
adopted by friends.

We take our final shoot in Ocean Studio in Kwun

Tong. Three looks are shot and 2 makeup with

her own life.

She was born in a traditional eastern socialite family. The goldfish

is her only friend. The fish lost its freedom like her. They are
trapping in a small world but belong to an unlimited universe.
