Subject: Creative Writing/ Creative Nonfiction

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. describe “creative nonfiction”;
2. identify types of creative nonfiction; and
3. manifest awareness of the value of interiority with an activity following the lesson.

Subject Matter
Topic: Intro to Creative Nonfiction
Materials: Laptop, White/chalk board, LCD Projector
Reference: Hidalgo, C.P. (2005). Creative Nonfiction: A Manual for Filipino Writers. University of the
Philippines Printing Press: Quezon City, Philippines

Instructional Procedure
1. Daily Routine: Prayer; Checking of attendance; Inspecting the physical condition of the
classroom
2. The teacher will ask the students to mention three words related to their childhood memory.
The words must be concrete nouns, not abstract. Some students will be called out to mention
their words in the class.
3. The teacher will proceed to explain how memories can be material for writing, which is the goal
of Creative Nonfiction.
4. The teacher will discuss the definition of creative nonfiction and its types.
5. The teacher will open the floor for questions and clarifications.
6. The students will be asked to get a piece of paper. They will write something about the three
words they have chosen.

Assignment
Read up on “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” by Christina Pantoja Hidalgo. Be ready for the
discussion in the next meeting.
