To help European exchange program co-ordinators assess the value of the courses. University of Akureyri uses
the ECTS credits system. The European Credit Transfer System was developed by the European Union
Commission in order to provide common procedures to guarantee academic recognition of studies abroad.
Please note that you must fulfil the specified prerequisites stated for each course in order to be admitted. To be
able to follow a course, a good command of the language in which the course is taught, is necessary.

Housing for students in Akureyri is always in great demand. As an exchange student you can apply for
accommodation in a student residence through the Student Housing Office (www.festaha.is). Please send the
Student Housing application to the International Office along with your exchange application and notice
that there are limited number of rooms available there. Exchange students are also offered housing in local
guesthouses. Finding accommodation in Akureyri on your own is very difficult. Please consult the Manager of
International Relations for help in this matter. If you decide to arrange private accommodation, please state this
