One of the interesting features of the computer field has been the rather free entry of new
persons into it. general educational equirements were not concidered as important as spesific
technical skill to do the job - desaign a system or program an application. there now seem to be
changes in this early attitude, as reflected in changing standards if performances an in
educational programs.
There appears to be a changing pattern in the computer data processing field. This is
especially evident in the field of computer programming. In the early days of computing, the
creative people were the ones who could figure out how to make a program execute using
as little memory as possible and conserving machine time. There tended to be an emphasis
on creativity - a programmer was an artist. Quality control, maintainability, documentation,
etc.were of laser importancs. There were plenty of jobs, so that long-run performance was
not ranked as highly as artistry of the moment.
Hopefully, those days are gone forever. The change to higher-level languages eliminated the
extreme emphasis on programming "tricks". There is strong movement toward quality
control based on a life cycle concept of development. Job satisfaction in programming must
finally come from competence and from a job well done. In progamming this means a
finished product - a tested, documented, maintainable program.
The current status of data processing employees is indicated by a recent U.S. government
rulling that programmers and analyst are not part of a "true profession" because there is too
much variation in employment standards and academic requirements. They pointed out
there is no licensing, certification, o registration as a condition for employment and there is
no prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.
There has been some activity aimed at improving educational requirements. these efforts
will be described later. Two certificate programs are in operation, The Certified Data
Processing(CDP) certificate and the Registered Programmer certificate. Both are described
in Appendix III. There is some disagreement about the impact of these two certificates, and
two other examination/certificate programs are under development - by AFIPS(American
Federation of Information Processing Societies) and ACPA(Association of Computers
Programmers/Analysts).
There are no educational requirements for a person to become a part of the computer
industry as a programmer, analyst, etc. In fact, 50 percent of those included in a survey of
programmers in industrial data processing had less than a bachelor's degree. Education has
been gained in trade schools, manufactures, seminars, etc. In many ways, this lack of formal
education has been desirable because it allowed free entry for all. However, a stable
industry probably requires reasonable standards of education covering a core of agreed-
upon study material.
pemeriksaan / sertifikat lainnya sedang dikembangkan - oleh AFIPS (American Federation of
Information Processing Societies) dan ACPA (Association of Computers Programmers /
Analysts).
(pemasaran, keuangan, manufaktur, akuntansi, manajemen, dll.)
informasi organisasi. Gambar 22-3 menunjukkan struktur dasar dari kurikulum yang
