Portfolio Artifact Description: Dream House – Using various tools to create an overview of a home design.
What you Learned:
Until I started mapping out the home, I didn’t realize how much goes into building and designing a structure. The different rooms, amenities, and even the small details like doors and windows made this a time-consuming project. I imagine the process would be easier with a program specifically designed for creating a layout, but then I realized that this is a challenge all teachers face; adapting tools and programs to fit their needs and budget.
National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS- S) Addressed:
Innovative Designer Standard #4 – using different technology programs, students use their creativity to create design solutions.
Application of Skills Learned for the Future:
I had a difficult time with this project because of using this program with a touch screen laptop. Each time I tried to move a live in the drawing, the entire outline of the house would more and offset the entire thing. Another challenge was the door ways and using the Arch tool. It was an interesting assignment that allowed for creativity, which is great for keeping students engaged. Maybe make the assignment to design a dream treehouse, or dream room. Students could even be asked to build the design with blocks or Legos.
