PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT

ADULT PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTS


OBJECTIVE PERSONALITY TESTS
 Straightforward approach
 Patients are asked specific & standard questions in a
structured written or oral format.
 Each patient is asked the same question.
o The data obtained from the px are compared to
data obtained from the normative group.
o The degree to which the px deviates from the norm
is noted & used in the interpretive process.
 The px’s responses are scored accdg to certain agreed-
upon criteria.
o Obtained scores are then compared w/ normative
tables; &
o Converted to standardized scores or percentiles,
or both.

MINNESOTA MULTIPHASIC PERSONALITY INVENTORY


(MMPI-2)
 Takes 1.5 hours to complete
 Consists of 567 true or false questions
o Concerning a wide variety of issues
o Requires only an 8th grade reading
comprehension
 Scoring involves adding up the # of responses on numerous
scales & comparing it to normative information
 Interpretation of the MPPI-2 is more straightforward than
w/ many other test
