NATIONAL FOREWORD

This Indian Standard (Part 3) (Second Revision), which is identical with IS0 702/3 : 1975 ‘Machine
tools -Spindle noses, and face plates -Sizesfor interchangeability -Part3: Bayonettype’, issued by
the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was adopted by the Bureau of Indian
Standards on 23 November 1987 on the recommendation of the Machine Tools, Machine Tool
Elements and Wood-Working Machines Sectional Committee (EDC 11) and approval of the
Mechanical Engineering Division Council.

This standard was first issued in 1963. After the formulation of ISO/R 702, this standard was revised
and split into three Darts in 1972. The IS0 recommendations have since been replaced by IS0 702/l,
IS0 70212 and IS0 702/3. With a viewto achieving international dimensions which are basic in
nature. this revision of IS 2582 (Part 3) and adoption of IS0 702/3:1975 has been considered.

The text of the IS0 standard has been approved as suitablefor publication as Indian Standard without
deviations. Certain conventions are, however, not identical to those used in Indian Standards.
Attention is particularly drawn to the following :

a) Wherever the words ‘International Standard’ appear referring to this standard, they should
be read as ‘Indian Standard’.
b) Comma (,) has been used as decimal marker while in Indian Standards, the current practice
is to use a point 1.1as the de,cimal marker.
