Lesson Focus: Volleying Grade: 2-4th Grade Technology Used: Music Player

Sequence: 1 of 3 Facility/Equipment: Beach balls, light volleyballs, success balls, lighter soccer balls

Lesson Intro (What will you say to get the students’ attention, communicate the lesson objectives, and motivate students to achieve them?): Today we are going to
explore the skill of volleying. Someone raise their hand and tell me what a volley is. Yes. Volleying is the propelling of an object up into the air without letting it
hit the ground. Let’s brainstorm a couple of ways we can volley an object and raise your hand if you would like to share. So as you can see, there are all sorts of
ways you can volley objects. I have many different types of objects that you all will be using that best fits your skill. First, you will be volleying with your hands.
When I dismiss you, you make go and get an object and find your own personal space around the gym and start.

Learning Objectives Assessment

Each objective should include: a) Performance (the knowledge or ability the For each objective include your procedure for determining whether
learner will gain as a result of this lesson), b) Conditions (under which the objectives have been met:
learner will perform, and c) Criterion (the level of performance considered
acceptable):

Students can…

1. Verbally describe what the skill of volleying is. 1. Choral response and randomly asking students.

2. Consecutively volley an object 10 times in a row with their palms 2. In-class observation
upward without the object hitting/touching the ground.

3. Move safely while being aware of their surroundings while keeping 3. In-class observation
their eye on the object.

Safety considerations and/or modifications for special needs students: Students need to be aware of their surroundings so they do not run into each other.
Special needs students will be given modified equipment that best highlights their abilities (lighter or bigger objects).
