Instructions – Valve Operators (Top Works) 
 
1. A valve operator (or Top Works) is the mechanism to open and close a valve. A ball valve 
has a lever. The lever should point in the direction of flow when open and 90° when closed. 
A gate and globe valve uses a wheel. A control valve has an actuator. 
 
2.  Add a valve to the drawing. Under Misc on the ribbon, click Top Works Add. Click on the 
valve and a popup box will appear. Select the operator for the valve. Use the correct size for 
the specification (Use 800 for threaded valves). You might find that some of the operators 
are a little big or long. You can Explode the valve and adjust if you wish. 
 
3. Examples: 2”‐300# Gate Valve, 2”‐600# Glove Valve, 2”‐150# Ball valve (closed position), 2” 
actuated control valve.
