Past Simple – Verb “To Be”

 En el presente, el verbo To Be significa “ser o estar” pero si queremos


hablar en pasado tenemos que decir “era o estaba”. Para ello, ya NO
utilizaremos AM – IS – ARE sino WAS/WERE.

 Examples: affirmative
1) I was 25 years old.

2) She was a doctor.

3) They were at the meeting yesterday.

4) You were a student.

Negative
1) I wasn’t 25 years old.

2) She wasn’t a doctor.

3) They weren’t at the meeting yesterday.

4) We weren’t students.

Interrogative
1) Was I 25 years old? Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t.
2) Was she a doctor? Yes, she was. / No, she wasn’t.
3) Were they at the meeting yesterday? Yes, they were. / No, they weren’t.
4) Were you students? Yes, we were. / No, we weren’t.
Exercises
1) Put the sentences in Past Simple. Use was/were/wasn’t/weren’t.

1) It was a beautiful day.

2) Tom wasn’t 26 years old.

3) They weren’t my teacher.
