SUBJECT: HYDRAULIC POWER
AIRCRAFT Version(s)
CONCERNED Civil Military
AS350 B, BA, BB, B1, B2, B3, D L1
AS550 A2, C2, C3, U2
AS355 E, F, F1, F2, N, NP
AS555 AF, AN, SN, UF, UN
The purpose of Revision 4 of this Information Notice is to correct an error in the Part Number of the POST
MOD 074686 pressure hose of the tail rotor servo-control of AS350/AS550 helicopters. This Part Number is
specified in the summary table given for information purposes. Please read 704A34412272 instead
of 704A4412272.
The purpose of revision 3 of this Information Notice is to inform that POST MOD 074686 and POST MOD 074733
hydraulic pressure hoses are available as spare parts.
Modification MOD 074239 consists in installing Teflon/stainless steel hoses in place of the former polyamide hoses
which must be replaced every 5000 FH // 6Y. These hoses are fitted to:
- the complete hydraulic power system on all AS350 and AS550 helicopter versions with single hydraulic
power system,
- the tail rotor servo-control and load compensator for AS350 and AS550 helicopters with double hydraulic
power system,
- the optional ground connection on AS350, AS550, AS355 and AS555 helicopters,
- the RH hydraulic system of AS355 and AS555 helicopters.
These new Teflon/stainless steel hoses (POST MOD 074239) are no longer subject to an operating time limitation
and are interchangeable and mixable with the former hoses.
Immediately after having put them into service at the customer’s site, cases of leaks on these pressure hoses were
reported. The investigations conducted made it possible to identify the causes of the leaks, and the main cause is
that the hoses can charge with static electricity through a tribo-electrical phenomenon (image 2 - Figure 1) and
discharge in the stainless steel braid when its potential has reached the Teflon tube’s insulating limit
(image 3 - Figure 1). This discharge can create a micro-perforation, leading to the leaking of hydraulic fluid
(images 4 & 5 - Figure 1).
Airbus Helicopters has therefore implemented the industrialization of new pressure hoses through modification
MOD 074686 for AS350, AS550, AS355 and AS555 helicopters, and through modification MOD 074733 for the
optional ground connection. These hoses are completely interchangeable and mixable with all the previous
definitions.
All the POST MOD 074686 and POST MOD 074733 hydraulic pressure hoses are now available as spare parts.
