It is with sadness that we announce the search for Darnell Gray has ended. Just before noon
today, members of a law enforcement search group located the body of the missing 4 year old.
The area where he was located was identified through the ongoing investigation.

At this time, our search efforts have turned tragically into a death investigation. The medical
examiner’s office has responded and efforts are underway to determine the cause of his death.

The Jefferson City Police department would like to acknowledge the numerous agencies that
assisted during this search to include; The FBI Kansas City Field Office, the Missouri Highway
Patrol, the Cole County Sheriff’s Department, Lincoln University Police, the Jefferson City Fire
Department, Cole County Emergency Management, the Missouri Capitol Police Department, the
Osage Beach Fire Protection District, the Boone County Fire Department, Jefferson City Public
works and the Jefferson City housing authority.

I would also like to thank all the area businesses that have donated items to the agencies during
the long hours of work.
