2 - Hazard Identification
Hazard Statement
R Phrases and CLP Classifications provided herein describe the classification each component in the lubricant additive. The concentration of each component which may
pose risk in the form of lubricant additive are much below their individual cut off level for physical, health and environmental hazard classes making resulting the
lubricant mixture " Not Classified" under GHS criteria.
Inhilation: Remove to fresh air and rest. If recovery is not rapid call for prompt medical attention. Show this safety data
sheet to medical personnel.
Eyes: Gently rinse with water for at least 15 minutes. Take care not to wash chemical from one eye to another. If irritation
persists, seek medical attention.
Skin: Remove contaminated clothing. Wash with soap/cleanser and rinse with plenty
of water. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Give plenty of water to drink. Seek medical attention immediately.
Suitable Extinguishers: Use media such as alcohol/aqueous foam, dry chemical, or carbon dioxide or water spray/fog. For
large fires, solid streams of water may be ineffective. Cool all affected containers with flooding quantities of water.
Unsuitable Extinguishers: Direct water jets may be ineffective under certain conditions.
Hazardous Decomposition: Highly dependent on combustion conditions. A complex mixture of airborne solids, liquids, and
gases including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and unidentified organic compounds will be evolved.
Special Procedures/Information for firefighters: Do not breathe decomposition products and fumes. Use approved self-
contained breathing apparatus. Wear fire retardant clothing. Do not enter any enclosed or confined fire space without
proper protective equipment, including self-contained breathing apparatus. Use water spray to cool Use water fog to
disperse vapours and leaks that have not ignited. Prevent runoff from fire control from entering waterways. Large fires
should only be dealt with by trained personnel.
Personal Protection and Precautions: Use suitable personal protective equipment (refer to Section 8 for details). Avoid
breathing vapours. Ensure adequate ventilation. Eliminate all sources of ignition near the spill or released vapour.
Environmental Precautions: Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Do not let product enter drains or
watercourses. Where feasible and appropriate, remove contaminated soil. Place contaminated materials in disposable
containers and dispose of in a manner consistent with applicable regulations.
Containment, Cleaning up and Disposal Considerations: Absorb in inert material such as sand or non-combustible
absorbent granules. All equipment used when handling the product must be grounded. A vapour suppressing foam may be
used to reduce vapours. Scoop up and place in plastic container to await transfer.
Storage: Store in a cool, dry and well-ventilated area keeping containers tightly closed. Containers which are opened
carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage.
Occupational Exposure Limit: 5 mg/m3 8hrTWA, 10 mg/m3 15min STEL OEL Oil mist.
Respiratory Protection: Use in well ventilated areas. Use mechanical ventilation if possible. If inhalation is likely then use a
respirator with filter type A to Standard EN14593/4, EN405 or equivalent. The use of suitable gas detectors and alarm
systems, especially in confined spaces and poorly ventilated areas is recommended.
Hand Protection: Wear polythene, PVC or nitrile gloves to Standard EN 374 (breakthrough time for total immersion in
excess of 8 hours).
Eye Protection: Wear suitable eye protection such as safety glasses or goggles to Standard BS EN 166 if splash or eye
contact likely.
Skin Protection: Wear suitable overalls or apron and change if contaminated. After contact with skin wash off
immediately. Wash hands before breaks and immediately after using the product
Chemical Stability: Stable at normal temperatures and under recommended storage conditions.
Hazardous Decomposition Products: No hazardous decomposition products when stored and handled correctly. Hazardous
decomposition products formed under fire conditions are highly dependent on combustion conditions. A complex mixture
of airborne solids, liquids, and gases including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and unidentified organic compounds will
be evolved when this material undergoes combustion.
11 - Toxicological Information
Skin corrosion/irritation: Mechanically degraded mineral oil may cause skin dryness or cracking.
Serious eye damage/eye irritation: Not expected to cause any acute damage or irritation.
Carcinogenicity: IARC: No component of this product present (as supplied) at levels than or equal to 0.1% is identified as
probable, possible or confirmed greater human carcinogen by IARC. Substance not classified as carcinogen because it
contains less than 3% DMSO.
Skin: May be harmful if absorbed through skin. Repeated skin contact may cause dermatitis.
Signs and Symptoms of Exposure: May cause skin dryness or cracking, ingesting substance can cause severe
abdominal pains, nausea and vomiting. To the best of our knowledge, the chemical, physical, and toxicological properties
have not been thoroughly investigated
12 - Ecological Information
Toxicity
Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects
13 - Disposal Considerations
Product: Do not discharge into drains or water courses, dispose of through properly licensed contractors.
Dispose of in accordance with the Hazardous Waste regulations 2005.
14 - Transport Information
15 - Regulatory Information
Label Elements: No statutory safety labels are required for this material in accordance with the provisions
of EC/1907/2006, EC/1272/2008 or 67/548/EEC as amended
16 - Other Information
Note L
The classification as a carcinogen need not apply if it can be shown that the substance contains less than 3% DMSO
extract as measure by IP346 ‘Determination of polycyclic aromatics in unused lubricating base oils and asphaltene free
petroleum fractions – Dimethyl sulphoxide extraction refractive index method’, Institute of Petroleum, London. This note
applies only to certain complex oil-derived substances in Part 3.
