Instant (on-the-spot) decisions

I downloaded from this site an activity called Making instant decisions by Marijana Macura and Macmillan Publishers Ltd 2003 and adapted it
for kids.
It is better (but not necessary) to print the cards on coloured paper (p.g. you print ‘problem’ card on blue paper and decisions on green one).
You may use it in different ways.
Then you may arrange it as a memory game. Students should take a ‘problem’ card first, and then a decision card. They keep them if they
match. Otherwise, the put them back.
Another way of usage is to divide students into pairs and give two piles of cards for each pair. One student takes one card from each pile (all in
all, two) and reads them. If they make a pair he/she keeps them. Otherwise he/she puts them back. The one who gets more cards wins. Encourage
students to collect (write down) some humorous ideas they came across (p. g. I’ve got too much homework. – I’ll give you mine. Our fridge is empty-
I’ll give you an aspirin).
You may also play cards. Divide you students into groups, let them take p. g. 3 (4) cards and leave some cards in a pile. Students make their
turns clockwise. The first student starts by putting a card on the table. If the next one has got a proper card he/she puts it on the table. If the student
hasn’t got it he/she takes one from the pile and misses a turn. The one who finishes first wins.
You may also use an activity from Making instant decisions (students draw a card from different packs in turns).
When your students practiced a lot, you may divide them into teams and give read some ‘problem’ cards aloud. Each team in turns should
give a proper response from the card (if they remember, and give their own they don’t).
