Settings for Mac

Enable file Sharing


1.  Start  the  'System  Preferences'  App  
2.  Select  'Sharing'  

 
 
3.  From  the  'Service'  list  on  the  left,  check  the  ‘File  Sharing'  checkbox.  
 
Note:   If   you’re   not   able   to   connect   your   Mac,   please   restart   the   file  
sharing   service.   Simply   uncheck   the   ‘File   Sharing’   checkbox   and   check   it  
again  to  restart  the  file  sharing  service  

Share a folder
1.  Under  the  'Shared  Folders'  lists,  click  +  
2.  Choose  a  folder  to  share  and  click  'Add'  
3.  By  default  all  users  ('Everyone')  get  read-­‐only  access  to  the  share.  To  
give   your   user   the   ability   to   change   files,   click   +   under   the   'Users'   list  
and  choose  your  account.  Then  change  'Read  Only'  to  'Read  &  Write'.

4.   Click   the   "Options"   button,   then   select   “Share   files   and   folders   using  
SMB”  and  select  the  user  account  to  authorize  access.

Find  the  Computer  Name  and  IP  (optional)  
1.  Start  the  'System  Preferences'  App  
2.  Select  'Sharing'  
3.  You’ll  see  the  window  like  the  screenshot  below.  The  first  red  mark  is  
the  computer  name  plus  domain  name.    
For  example:  MyMacBookPro.local  
“MyMacBookPro”  is  your  computer  name.  This  will  be  the  text  to  enter  
in  the  Remote  File  Manager’s  "Computer  Name/IP"  field  
“local”   is   your   domain   name.   It’s   the   value   in   the   Remote   File   Manager’s  
"DNS  Domain  Suffix"  field.  
4.   Alternatively,   you   could   input   the   computer   IP   address   in   the  
“Computer   Name/IP”   field,   then   you   don’t   need   input   “DNS   Domain  
Suffix”  field  anymore.  

 
Configure  firewall  on  Mac  
You   should   now   be   able   to   connect   Remote   File   Manager   to   your   Mac.   If  
you  can't,  the  firewall  of  Mac  OSX  might  be  blocking  the  network.  
Please  follow  steps  to  configure  the  firewall.  
1.  Open  System  Preferences  and  click  "Security".  
2.  Click  "Firewall".  
3.  Click  the  lock  to  make  changes.  
4.  Click  "Advanced..."  
5.  Ensure  that  "Block  all  incoming  connections"  is  unchecked.  
Q&A
Q.  I  follow  the  settings  in  user  manual,  but  I  still  can’t  connect  my  Mac  
from  Remote  File  Manager.  What  do  I  do?  
A.  Please  check  whether  you  set  the  WINS  settings.  
1.  Start  the  'System  Preferences'  app    
2.  Click  'Network'    
3.   Select   the   "green"   connected   service   and   click   the   "Advanced..."  
button.  

   
4.  Click  the  "WINS"  tab  and  select  the  Workgroup  option.  

 
A.   Please   use   Ping   command   to   identify   whether   your   Mac   and   iOS  
device   are   connectible.   Please   follow   the   steps   below   to   ping   your  
device  from  Mac.  
1.   Open   the   Remote   File   Manager   and   start   the   built-­‐in   FTP   Server.   In  
the  example  below,  the  IP  of  my  iPhone  is  ‘192.168.1.112’  

 
2.  Open  the  Terminal  app  from  your  Mac  -­‐>  Applications  -­‐>  Utilities  -­‐>  
Terminal,  and  run  ping  command  to  ping  the  IP  of  your  device.    

 
 
Q.   I   successfully   ping   my   device   from   Mac.   But   I   still   can’t   connect   my  
Mac  from  device.    
A.  There  are  two  things  you  can  have  a  try.  
1.  Use  the  Computer  IP  address  to  connect,  instead  of  Computer  Name.  
 
2.  Restart  the  file  sharing  service  on  your  Mac.  Uncheck  the  ‘File  Sharing’  
checkbox  and  check  it  again  to  restart  the  file  sharing  service.
