Netflix and Burn

There has been a drastic change in the
quality of Netflix productions.
In 1997, Reed Hastings and Marc
Randolph set out to create “the Amazon.
com of something.” They came up with
the idea to rent and ship DVDs online
for families to enjoy. For the longest time,
that is all Netflix was. From 1998-2006
the movie rental began to grow in sub-
scriptions. Then in the spring of 2007, the
company experimented with streaming its
media for free.
As the years passed on, the company
became known more for its streaming
than their DVD rentals. Soon there had
been over 500 shows and almost 7,000
movies. Contracts were signed, licenses
were obtained, and Netflix was the go-to
website to binge watch.
In the winter of 2013, the first Netflix
original House of Cards was created. Soon
after, Orange is the New Black.

How do I feel full of energy every day?
This is totally something everybody
struggles with on the daily, and I feel your
pain sister. First we gotta state the obvious
here, drink water. Water is just all around
the most important and beneficial thing
for you and the more water you drink on
a regular basis the more energy you’ll find
yourself with.
Truly the best thing I have found to
give me energy is yoga. Yoga gives you an
opportunity every day to clear your mind
and center yourself. There are thousands
of instructive yoga videos on the internet,
along with many apps that will guide you
with Scripps Network interactive, or the
company known for Food Network and
Home and Garden Television (HGTV),
Netflix created similar cooking shows to
fill the gaps, such as Chef ’s Table and The
World’s Most Extraordinary Homes. When
FOX moved over to Hulu, popular shows
like American Dad and Prison Break, were
taken off the website.
“I already liked Netflix before they
added in anything new. When Netflix
started to add in their own original mov-
ies, I was quite skeptical at the time,” said
sophomore Alexis Ponce. “I’ve watched
quite a few of the originals myself and
really enjoyed them. It’s neat to know that
you won’t be able to find them anywhere
else.”
In some ways, this is a plus. Brand
new series’ with pre-made episodes all
available at the click of fingertips. This was
step-up from TV shows where you have
to wait until the previous season was over
to start watching, or movies that seem to
through a session. Get yourself a yoga mat,
and find your qi.
How do I prevent acne breakouts?
Alright, honey, here’s the deal. First I
gotta start off by saying there’s obviously
no 100% tried and true way to prevent
acne breakouts. Here’s why: there’s two
real reasons you get a breakout. The first
is called skin purging, and that’s when you
have a reaction to some kind of chemi-
cal you put on your face or something
bad you put in your body. The splotchy
breakout that follows is your skin’s way of
flushing out all of the toxicity and saying
“Bye hun!”.
The second reason results from HOR-
MONES, poor diet, or products too rich
for your skin.
All right yeah, so that’s all great, now
you know why breakouts happen, but how
never leave the theater. Yet, the “original-
ity”, or lack there of, is astounding. Some
original movies show no plot depth or
character growth, and are only made for a
quick buck. Many of these include dull or
overly dramatic acting, sometimes a mix-
ture of both. The plots are a mix of cliches,
the dialogue is unrealistic, and the actors
can be very dull, like The Kissing Booth,
and critics agree. Receiving a whopping
13% on Rotten Tomatoes, the original
didn’t do so hot.
“It’s a teen rom-com built on the back
of every tired cliche the genre has to of-
fer,” according to Stephanie Marcus from
Insider. “...disconnected plot to its bizarre
dialogue and over-acting,” said Tara Wat-
son from Punkee.
To me, the stories either go too fast or
too slow, there is no in between. The writ-
ers seem to throw in out of date slang to
attempt to relate to young viewers. Prod-
uct placements have covered the screen.
“There’s not that much of a variety
anymore. There’s not many family favorites
that we can enjoy, there’s just new mov-
ies that are almost mediocre,” explained
sophomore CCA student Jane Kim.
can you prevent them? Well, the first thing
you need to do before even thinking about
products is water. Water is so important
when it comes to healthy skin because
proper hydration aids in digestion, circula-
tion, absorption and even (reducing) oil
excretion. Also your skin cells are made of
water so think of it as giving your skin an
internal shower.
Now, as I’m sure you all want to know,
products. I recommend getting two good
cleansers as a basic first step to your skin
routine: micellar water and witch hazel
toner. The micellar water is really good at
clearing out everything on the surface of
your skin and the witch hazel shrinks your
pores and removes excess oil. (Garnier
and Simple are two really good brands for
micellar water, and Dickinson’s Original
Witch Hazel or Thayer’s Rose Petal Witch

Of course, there are some exceptions.
A few movies’ felt almost theater worthy,
and a small amount of series’ were worth
wasting time on. Recently, To All the Boys
I’ve Loved Before, a book-movie adapta-
tion, received a 96% on Rotten Toma-
toes. A teen romance with a quirky main
character, and charming love interest. The
actors in this film, Noah Centineo and
Lana Condor, are all anyone can talk about
on social media anymore.
Not so recently, a drama series known
as Thirteen Reasons Why affected many
young adults, shocking viewers. The first
season was rated with a 81% according to
Rotten Tomatoes. Their second season was
more fitting for an original with a dying
storyline. Ratings dropped by 54%. There
are low expectations for the third season.
A show that is up in the air on wheth-
er the next season will be a good quality
is Stranger Things. Season one was a large
hit, with high ratings and large interests.
The second season wasn’t far behind the
first, people still enjoyed the show. A third
season seems to be a little too much and it
seems like the creators have become a bit
greedy.

The next step is a good moisturizer.
Honestly, anything will do, just make sure
it says non-comodogenic. Non-como-
dogenic means the product is specially
formulated to not block pores and keep
your skin healthy. (Philosophy, Garnier,
Olay and Neutrogena all have really good
moisturizers.)
Everything after that needs to be
decided by you, and here’s why: every-
body’s skin type is different. Some people
may respond better to salicylic acid than
others and some people may get a rash
when using benzoyl peroxide. The way to
find what works for you is to, first, find
your skin type. The four are: normal, dry,
oily, and combination. Then you need to
look up what products work for those skin
types, and experiment a little bit! Now go
get that glow and live your best life!
