Aa, Ee, Ii, Oo, Uu or the abakadas as what the child learns first in school.
It is the basic foundation and a pre-requisite to master the reading skills of a
learner. Reading is multifaceted process involving motivation, word
recognition, fluency, and comprehension. It improves one’s ability to
comprehend written material. Learning to read is a sequential process. Each
new skill builds on the mastery of previously learned skills which should be
retained by a learner otherwise learning won’t take place. Reading is how we
discover new things and how we hone a positive outlook or self-image in life.
The ability to read is a vital skill in being able to function in today’s challenging
community or society. It is indispensable for it contributes a lot to the
development of the mind and imagination of individuals.
When a child allots time to read, he gradually builds an ideal future for
himself. He can even educate himself in any area of life where one’s ability or
skill matters the most. Through reading, we become aware of what transpire in
our country and seek at least means and ways to contribute even our slightest
effort to come up with a solution. We get to know the world and its entire
components and even unravel the mysteries that linger within it. We familiarize
ourselves with our fellowmen by reading their perspective stories or biographies
which draw so much inspiration and create a positive impact in our hearts. We
learn a lot of values that we inculcate to ourselves and to others. We overcome
the fear of rejection and resist idleness that may hamper our journey towards
success. We gain respect and admiration from our fellows. We put pride,
honor, and prestige to our country where we belong and most of all, we
demonstrate positive or favorable impression that our country is indeed worth
living and an ideal place to live in.
Always remember the very fact that ignorance in reading is an escape
from an ideal future which one should not dare to do. Bear in mind that those
who don’t read are poor readers; often have low or weak opinions of
themselves and their capabilities. The more you read, the more educated you
become and the brighter future you achieve. Keep on believing that the skill
in reading will bring each of us closer and even closest to our dreams and
nearest to our aspirations in life. Read! Read! And read! Dare to read my dear
fellowmen!
