DETERMINATION OF RELATIVE ATOMIC MASS

the purpose: find out about the determination of the relative atomic mass of the element Mg of
MgO oxide formed through experiments
Basic Theory
The atomic mass is the primary elements of nature that distinguishes an item with another item.
Because atom is very light so it can't be used grams and kilograms for Atomic mass, so need to
look for an atom as standard. One of the conditions of mass standard is stable and pure, so the
atom C-12 is used as a benchmark element. Relative atomic mass is very important in chemistry
to know sufat elements and compounds.
A balanced reaction is the basis for calculating the relationship of mass reaction and the reaction
proceeds in accordance with the law conservation of mass, in the total mass of the reactant is
equal to the total mass of the reaction results in a balanced equation to determine the number of
substances exactly, then used one of units called moles. Mass one atom is the atomic mass in
Atomic mass units.
International agreements with a single atom of the nuclide in select C and determined the mass of
12.00000 u (which explains the definition of one atomic mass unit, 1 u, which is equal to the
mass of an atom of carbon 1/12-1.0-2). The mass of one atom are known as mass nuklidat,
cannot be obtained easily by simply summing the masses of particles-patikelnya. A number of
the material is converted into energy in the acceleration of a nucleus of protons and neutrons. But
a comparison of the mass of other nuclides are measured with a mass spectrometer
Magnesium (Mg) is a white metal can and clay. Fused magnesium metal at a temperature of 650
ᵒ C. This metal is flammable in air or oxygen with a brilliant white light, forming oxide MgO and
some nutrida Mg3N2. Magnesium slowly decompose by water at the temperature of the base, but
at the boiling point of water, the reaction takes place with fast reaction: 2H2O + Mg → Mg (OH)
2 + H2. Magnesium hydroxide (Mg (OH) 2). If no grams of ammonium, practically does not
dissolve easily in acid.
