My favorite year turned out to be a great musical after all.

The reviews for this show were mostly

negative. I chose to look at it with hope. I’ve discovered a lot during the research of this musical. My
favorite year was first developed in 1982 as a Comedy by Richard Benjamin and Norman Steinberg. Mel
Brooks was the executive producer of the film! Crazy right? It was so interesting to learn that mostly all
of the characters in this story were based off of real people. It started out at Errol Flynn guest starring on
“ Your show of shows “ and practically inspired the role of Alan Swann. The role of Benjy Stone was
based on half of Mel brooks and Woody Allen. I personally think it’s Woody Allen on where Benjy got his
his wit from! The film became a unsuccessful musical and opened in 1992 at the Lincoln Center ‘s Vivian
Beaumont theatre: It opened December 10, 1992 and closed January 10, 1993. Wow. That was short
lived. The came to 36 performances and 45 reviews. Evan Pappas was Cast as the role of Benjy. I heard
he was a teacher at AMDA New York! How cool! There is one thing that’s still bothering me about this
musical. It’s just that, it doesn’t make sense to me yet, it doesn’t make sense to me yet. In the song “
Larger than life , “ Benjy claims that Alan Swann is his actual father. This is odd because in the story, Alan
Swann already does have a distant Daughter he has yet to reconnect with. Benjy fixes it up an idea and I
says “ Let’s see if he met my mom in 34 and had a fling with her at his Canbana at the Chateau
Marmont. There could be the remote possibility that the man who went out for the chesterfields wasn’t
my really father at all. I am the bastard son of Alan Swann. “ The other odd thing is that Benjy never
mentions that through the rest of the show. So I wondering if that is a personal Joke he created for
himself or real.
The year is 1954. The year where Shakespeare in the Park Began and Robert F Wagner became New
York City’s 102nd Mayor. It was known to also be the Golden Year. Benjy Stone is a young Ambitious
aspiring writer, who hopes to put his ideas into his job working at the King Kaiser Comedy Cavalcade.
Although he struggles trying to reach out of the assistant job, he somehow finds the time to still write
amazing sketches. Poor kid. I relate a lot to this character because I struggle to to the same through life.
Although, I figured tha
