HNU- JINJU KUMMU Show at Cultural Interaction

Korean Cultural Practices Learned

During Korean Cultural show for Boholanos last November 5, 2018 at HNU Avhall.

The Koreans had presented some dances from their culture and practices .These were

the dances and song presented ,firstly, scholar's dance in Choson this kind of dance are

only dance by the scholar’s in their country. Secondly, traditional Korean song (Milyang

Arirang) a representative folk song of the Eastern region of Gyeongsang ,Ganguron,

and Hangyeong Provinces. The song has a balanced use of the modal structural

pitches, and has a melodic and musical coherence that centers on the A. Thirdly, was a

“Drum dance Changou is performed to the rythmic beating of caribon skin drums

,songs usually start softly with drummers tapping their drums and dancers swaying

rythmically . Fourth, is the Onaens dance ,the handfan dance and lastly, the sword

dance. I also learned that Milyang Arirang is the Korean anthem.

Filipino Cultural Practices Depicted

These were some cultural practices depicted in the presentation. First of those is

the “Kuradang dance” a dance which originated in Bohol. It is a dance during social

gatherings such as birthdays, baptism, wedding, and fiesta. It is also a dance which

literally means overdressed. Secondly, is the “rondalla” a set of string instruments. As

far as I could remember ,”Ang Probinsyana is one of a folk song presented by the

rondallans.
Insights Gained From the Cultural Interactions

From the start until the end of the presentations, I observed that in Korean

culture most of their dances were presented solemnly, they were very serious in their

movements. On the other hand, Filipino culture is different from them in terms of dance

movement. Filipinos did it very jolly and fast, it seems that they are moving actively.

Likewise, as to the folksongs. Overall insights from presentations. Yes! , we have

different culture and practices but we are the same human beings that has a heart to

love and a hand to help others in any instances. The only thing that we need to do is to

respect our differences since we have one God above all. Respecting ones culture is

also respecting oneself.
