letters have never gone out of print; his life and his writings have
been unassailable.
During the late 1600s, Bossuet was considered the Martin
Luther of the Catholic Church—he was more famous than any
other of his day. Today his name is almost lost in oblivion.
Between the writings of Guyon and Fénelon you will find the
richest spiritual treasures afforded to you today.
Fénelon died in 1715 as a result of an accident that befell him
while riding a carriage across a bridge.
The deaths of Guyon and Fénelon brought to a close an epic
era, not only in French history, but also in Christian history. Since
then no voices have arisen to take believers to the heights of spiri-
tual riches, as have they.

tricked her into leaving his dioceses saying that she did so without
his permission. Louis XIV hated this woman and had her arrested
on this pretext.
As punishment, she was first interned in the tower of Vincenne
and later transferred to the Bastille.
Guyon’s autobiography, which was written for private
inspection, has become one of the greatest biographies in
Christian history.
You will not find any writer of any generation who has reached
the depths that she has reached. Read her and read her well. She
is the best that the Christian faith has to offer, especially for those
looking for a deeper walk with Christ.
