    Classroom ru les

    The classroom will have a set of no more than 8 rules and behavioralexpectations
    posted. The rules will be stated in positive terms as "goal" behaviors. The rules will be
    posted on a chart that is large enough for all to see. The rules will be written in words that
    all can read and illustrated with pictures. At the beginning of the school year the students will
    collaborate and construct the classroom rules. This collaborative process helps to make
    students feel like they are part of the classroom community, and creates a sense of
    ownership in the classroom rules so that cooperation is more likely. Additionally, it provides
    opportunities to discuss the rationale behind the rules with students to promote
    understanding of the values which rules are based on. The classroom rules that were
    selected for the 2018-2019 schoolyear are: gentle touching, inside voices, listening ears,
    walking feet, sit criss-cross, clean up centers, be kind, and sharing.
