As much as I would have loved to have been more involved my last two years of high
school, my “volunteering” was much more needed at home. My mother, the most giving,
kind and beautiful human I know; was going through chemotherapy, radiation and four
surgeries within 18 months. I chose to utilize the majority of my “extra time” to helping
with my siblings, getting groceries, cooking, errands, helping my mother and family in
any way I possibly could be useful. When I wasn’t helping, I was spending valuable and
priceless time with my mother and family. I do not regret sacrificing many activities most
students my age was enjoying, as the time with my mother was a priority to me.
