The North London Region is one of five sub-regions in London - comprising Camden,
Westminster, Islington, Enfield, Haringey and Barnet. The boroughs are looking at several
initiatives to encourage owners of empty properties to bring them back into use. One of these
is a new advertising campaign on key London bus routes inviting those owners to contact
their council for information on the options available to them. These include advice about
letting, leasing or selling, and grant aid for owners. If owners refuse to bring their property
back into use the local authority can compulsorily purchase property that has been left empty
for a long time. For more information owners and anyone who wants to report an empty
property in the North London area can call the advice line 0800 953 6305.
The London Week of Action is an ideal occasion for boroughs to re-launch their Empty
Property Strategy and publicise schemes recently completed. London Boroughs can find out
what they should be doing during the Week, add details of their Empty Property event during
week or get advice about organizing an event by contacting Desmond Kilroy at the Agency on
020 7963 6886.
