While there are many UK organisations offering advice on Sustainable construction to

planners and developers there are none offering such advice to owners of existing property
requiring renovation and refurbishment works. This one day seminar explores how to
refurbish existing buildings in a sustainable way, including using reclaimed materials and
installing renewable energy technologies such as solar panels in existing buildings.

The North London Region is one of five sub-regions in London - comprising Camden,
Westminster, Islington, Enfield, Haringey and Barnet. The boroughs are looking at several
initiatives to encourage owners of empty properties to bring them back into use. One of these
is a new advertising campaign on key London bus routes inviting those owners to contact
their council for information on the options available to them. These include advice about
letting, leasing or selling, and grant aid for owners. If owners refuse to bring their property
back into use the local authority can compulsorily purchase property that has been left empty
for a long time. For more information owners and anyone who wants to report an empty
property in the North London area can call the advice line 0800 953 6305.
