Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can support the learning experiences for all students in my classroom.
Universal design for learning is all about creating learning environments that accommodate all students’
abilities and learning differences. UDL will support visual and auditory learning. English learners can also
spend time and review the content as needed.

Lesson idea implementation:

For this lesson the students will be able to correctly name the shapes regardless of their orientation or size.
Often times students will mistake a shape as not being the same as the shape that it is, because of the
orientation or size because they have only been introduced to the one shape in the same size and orientation.
For this lesson I will introduce the students to many different shapes in all sizes and orientations and explain
how they are still the same shape even if they look a little different. I will inform the students about how we
will be finding shapes in our every day lives.
After watching the shapes video, I made, the students will create their own. We will first discuss several
possibilities the students could encounter. We will talk about how a circle on a sheet of paper is a circle, while
a circle like the sun is still a circle. We will talk about the misconceptions of smaller and bigger shapes being
different. It is important to give them several examples and then letting them explore on their own.
Once the students have explored, they will put their findings into a PowerPoint. Support will be provided
throughout this portion of the lesson.
Lastly, we will share with the class. I want the students to have the opportunity to share their work and be
proud of it. I will provide feedback and feedforward to each student after their projects are presented. We
will talk about how these findings are true and even address the findings that aren’t true to our task. I think
that this will be a great teaching moment.

Reflective Practice:
I think that these activities I created will impact students learning for the better. I could extent the LoTi level
by having them publish their work to our class blog or something similar. This could extend our lesson outside
the classroom. I think that this will provide students will the opportunity to feel proud. I think that we could

also create a class PowerPoint/movie of all of our findings. This could provide us an opportunity to decipher
what is the best findings to share outside of our classroom. We will also have that opportunity to talk about
misconceptions.
